Under the Patronage of HE Rasheed Al Maraj, Central Bank of Bahrain Governor

Bahrain - Under the patronage of HE Rasheed M. Al Maraj, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, Citibank today inaugurated its Amwaj Islands Branch in the presence of several dignitaries and officials.

Located inside the Lagoon Mall of the modern Amwaj Islands suburb, Amwaj Islands Branch is the area's first full-fledged branch providing customers with a comprehensive suite of banking services close to their homes and in proximity to their workplaces.

The inauguration event was hosted by Alberto Verme, CEO of Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) for Citi; Atiq Ur Rehman, Citi's CEO for the Middle East; Marc Luet, CEO of Citi's Consumer Business for the EMEA region; Mazin Manna, CEO of Citi Bahrain; and Navneet Kampani, Consumer Banking Head, Citibank, N.A. Bahrain.

The Amwaj Islands Branch displays the latest smart banking technology, and offers a wide range of personalized financial planning solutions to help customers achieve their financial goals in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. The branch also caters to the banking needs of Small & Mid-Market Enterprises through a host of business and financial solutions. These include a complete range of Cash Management, Trade, Treasury and Lending solutions.

"We want to serve clients at Amwaj Islands by offering Citi's comprehensive banking platform through the most convenient location in the Lagoon Mall," said Navneet Kampani. "This modern branch will offer customers and corporate clients the convenience of performing full banking transactions at their location of choice."

The new branch opening follows a series of product launches in Bahrain in the past few months, including:

  • An International Personal Banking (IPB) platform, a solid offering of International Wealth Management services targeting sophisticated investors who wish to tap into international investment opportunities, available through the bank's offices in London and Jersey, as part of a balanced portfolio.
  • Launch of Direct Custody and Clearing (DCC) services to clients investing in Bahrain through the Bahrain Bourse.  Services include account management, settlement of securities activity, handling post-trade issues, the collection and payment of dividends and interest, and the processing of corporate action activities in the market.

"Citibank has been a partner in Bahrain's progress for the past four decades, and intends to enhance its value-added services to clients and investors, as well as expand its foothold in Bahrain's rising suburbs," said Mazin Manna. "The opening of Amwaj Islands Branch is in line with our goal to serve clients in the most efficient manner, and to help transfer best banking practices to the Kingdom."

Citi has been in the Middle East for nearly 50 years and currently offers consumer-banking services in the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt. In the Kingdom of Bahrain, Citibank, the consumer banking arm of Citi, has had a presence for the past 21 years and is expanding its operations within the country.

The bank is currently a major player in Bahrain's credit card market and one of the leading providers of Wealth Management and Consumer Credit services.
