Dubai - Citi is pleased to announce the appointment of Atiq ur Rehman as Chief Executive Officer for the Middle East Division, based in the UAE.

Mr. Rehman is an experienced Citibanker with a career spanning twenty six years at the bank.  Up until his new assignment, he was Co-Head of Capital Markets Origination for the EMEA Region. Previously, he played a key role in building Citi's Emerging Markets debt franchises around the world.  In 2008, Mr. Rehman relocated to the UAE from London to expand Citi's Capital Markets presence in the Region.

Citi has been in the Arab World for nearly 50 years and views the region as critical to its global franchise. It currently offers full scale corporate banking services across ten Arab countries including Egypt, UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait as well as Pakistan. Its consumer banking services cover UAE, Egypt, Bahrain and Pakistan, while it maintains close relationships with high networth clients in the region through the Citi Private Bank.

Commenting on his new role, Mr. Rehman said: "I am delighted to be part of Citi's Middle East franchise.  I look forward to building on our strengths and expanding our business in the region."

In 2006 Citi established offices at the DIFC which now houses Citi's Investment Banking and Equity Sales & Distribution businesses, Global Transactions Services, Equity Research, and Global Islamic Banking serving the MENA region. Citi had joined the NASDAQ Dubai Exchange as an individual clearing and trading member in 2005.

Alberto Verme, CEO of Europe, Middle East & Africa for Citi, said: "The Middle East is a priority growth region for Citi, and one of our most important franchises with a strong history of success dating back to the 1950s. Our client and customer base is diverse, and every major core business at Citi is represented in the Division. Atiq's leadership will be critical in ensuring Citi's continued success and growth, given his long experience and exposure to key local markets."
