Career Expo 2008, commenced yesterday--Tuesday 21 October--at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre, Hall 1, officially opened through a ribbon cutting ceremony by revered patron, H.E. Dr. Majeed Al Alawi, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the LMRA. Also supporting the event through his attendance as an esteemed VIP guest at the Opening Ceremony was Dr. Nizar Al Baharna, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Labour Fund.
The Career Expo is held under the auspices of the National Society for Support of Education & Training (NSSET), and is set to run for 2 more days from 08h00 - 13h00 for schools, and 16h00 - 20h00 for the general public, until the 23rd of October 2008.
The first day of Career Expo welcomed over 3,000 female students and jobseekers through the Exhibition Centre doors, with an estimated 10,000 expected over the course of the 3-day event. Yesterday held the first of two morning sessions reserved solely for Bahraini Female High School Students with the final day--23 October--being reserved solely for Bahraini Male High School Students. The girls entered the hall with intrigue and enthusiasm, and their focus on the career possibilities open to them was evident in their questions to the exhibitors.
The Expo targets Bahraini secondary students, vocational students, jobseekers, parents and the community, and aims to increase Bahraini student and jobseeker understanding of the professional world, while helping Bahrain develop sustainable careers for its young people.
As an additional incentive to encourage all students to represent themselves professionally, they were handed an Ideas For Life Workbook containing practical information related to the Expo, career guidance and useful facts, as well as a grid of empty boxes. If attendees impress an exhibitor with striking and relevant questions, exhibitors may choose to provide that student with a stamp in one of their grid boxes. Any student attendee receiving 9 stamps to complete their grid are eligible for a raffle draw to win prizes on each of the 3 days.
The afternoon sessions of Career Expo, which are open to the public, comprises the very successful Quiz show--an interactive competition first introduced in 2005--taking place daily from 16h00 - 19h00, made possible through the generous sponsorship and support of Gulf University.
