Dubai Dubai International Airport has won accolades at the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality Awards for 2010, winning the Best Airport Award (Middle East), as well as the Best Improvement Award (ME). Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Dubai Airports, said: “The ACI’s ASQ awards enjoy a very high level of credibility among the world’s travellers as well as among airports globally, and this is a cherished recognition for Dubai. I attribute this achievement to teamwork and our renewed drive for enhancing customer experience across our airports.”

Common market plans on track
Abu Dhabi The Ministry of Finance announced that it had held the first meeting of the UAE team tasked with facilitating the action plan for the Gulf Common Market (GCM). The Finance Ministry aims to implement its responsibility and organise the proper functioning of the GCM in the UAE through the team headed by Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Assistant Undersecretary of International Financial Relations in the Finance Ministry. The UAE’s leading role in implementing GCM resolutions and achieving economic integration and GCC economic citizenship was highlighted at the meeting.

Skype set for Jordan, Philippines
Dubai The QTel Group announced a commercial agreement with Skype, whereby its mobile broadband subsidiary wi-tribe, will promote Skype and its related products over wi-tribe’s networks in Jordan and the Philippines — two key markets for wi-tribe. Under the agreement, wi-tribe, a provider of wireless broadband internet, will enable customers in the respective markets to easily download Skype software and connect with their family and friends.

QInvest sets sights on two IPOs
Doha QInvest, the investment bank that’s 49 per cent owned by Qatar Islamic Bank, is working to conclude two “reasonable size” mandates for initial public offerings by local companies this year, its chief executive officer said. “We are looking to conclude one transaction in the second quarter of 2011, and the other in the second half,” Shahzad Shahbaz said.
