Initiative in line with Bank Sohar's ongoing safety campaign 'Be Safe. Be Responsible'
Muscat, April 22, 2013: In yet another initiative to promote road safety in the Sultanate, Bank Sohar partnered with Al Zahara College for Women's three-day symposium titled 'Youth Vision in the Changed World'. Held at the college premises, the event saw rising awareness about the cause in light of the grim statistics caused by road accidents in Oman.
Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi, AGM and head of Marketing and Publicity noted, "The need to improve road safety is a matter of vital importance to everyone in the Sultanate, and to align concerted efforts toward the cause, Bank Sohar has taken a lead role in the community to raise awareness. Towards this, the Bank takes up every chance to promote the subject and inform more people about the dangers of being reckless on the road,"
He added, "This initiative with Al Zahara College for Women was in line with our previous engagements such as the road shows across different Wilayats in the Sultanate. It is my pleasure to note that several students came forward to discuss their experiences and agreed that it is essential for those on the road to be aware of their responsibility while at the wheel."
In time with the celebration of the 29th Gulf Weekly Traffic, Bank Sohar joined hands with the college and organised for an entertaining yet educational open day which attracted students as well as promoting road safety consciousness among young drivers. In order to achieve the greatest possible impact, Bank Sohar highlighted key traffic safety messages such as 'do not text and drive', 'Wear your seat belt' and 'Don't use excessive speed' which made for simple, yet impactful communication.
As part of the event, Bank Sohar organised some fun, yet informative activities for the visiting public In addition, an 'Awareness caravan' brought in by the Traffic Safety Institute and a booth under the banner of 'texting under progress leads to regret' were present in the front yard of the college for attendees to visit.
In February 2013, Bank Sohar launched a year-long road safety campaign in partnership with Oman Road Safety Association (ORSA), a non-governmental road safety organisation to augment knowledge and awareness among citizens through a multitude of activities. As official records show the staggering toll of fatalities from road accidents, road safety has become a concern in Oman among all public and private sector organizations. Bank Sohar is leading by example in highlighting the importance of road safety awareness, both internally within employees of the Bank - as well as externally, through campaigns such as road shows conducted in partnership with the ORSA.
Through events such as the road show at Al Zahara College for Women, Bank Sohar's objective is to deliver engaging and relevant safety messages which would help them to help inform, enlighten and incentivize targeted drivers. The campaign is also designed to build the motivation of drivers to address the risky behaviours which pose the greatest danger on the roads.
