DUBAI (Zawya Dow Jones)--Aluminium Bahrain (ALBH.BH) said sales during the first quarter rose 2.2% on the back of higher production.
The company sold 219,537 metric tons of product in the three-month period, up from 214,891 tons a year earlier, Alba said in an emailed statement. Production was up 3% on the year at 227,414 tons in the period.
"In addition, Alba was able to capitalize on the strong demand of Value- Added products and closed the first quarter with an average of 66% of total shipments versus 65% in 2012 and 62% in Q1 2012," the company said.
Alba, one of the largest aluminum smelters in the world, in February said it expects a better overall performance this year as global demand remains healthy, after the company's net profit in 2012 more than halved due to lower London Metal Exchange prices and higher energy costs.
