Readers of leading German Car Magazine Auto Zeitung vote for BMW 1 Series and BMW 5 Series as winners in the compact and upper-range categories

Amman, Jordan - 29 January 2012: BMW Group recently announced in Germany that it had swept up two prestigious automotive awards voted for by readers of the Auto Zeitung car magazine, as well as a 'Quality Trophy' from the magazine's editors and the German Technical Inspection agency, the GTÜ.

The BMW 1 Series came top in the compact class and the 5 Series also won in the upper-range class, in a vote involving over 100,000 Auto Zeitung readers choosing from almost 400 cars in 29 categories. The BMW 5 Series achieved a clear margin of victory, with 37% of the votes cast in the upper-range category, while the BMW 1 Series claimed its title with 28% of the votes, after winning the 'Golden Steering Wheel' prize from another German car magazine just a few weeks earlier. A variety of other BMW models, such as the X3, X1, 3 Series and 6 Series Coupé and Convertible, all finished among the top three in their respective categories.

A special 'Quality Trophy' was also awarded to BMW by the editors of Auto Zeitung and the GTÜ technical inspection agency. This prize recognizes the quality and reliability of a current automobile range, with BMW 1 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series all receiving particularly high ratings. The ratings are based on the results of some 8 million automobile inspections carried out over the last two years.

Zaid al-Abdallat, General Manager of Abu Khader Automotive ( Motor Vehicle Trading Company) - the exclusive importer of BMW in Jordan - stated, "We are thrilled to hear about these awards from such a respected European automotive publication. The recognition these BMW models received reflects BMW's consistent ability to lead in quality, performance, design and innovation. Abu Khader is extremely proud to be the exclusive importer in Jordan to represent such dynamic vehicles in the Kingdom."

BMW Group Middle East was also recognized by automotive magazines in the region, with the new BMW M5 winning two awards from Wheels magazine, including 'Car of the year 2011' and '2011 Sports Saloon of the Year', and Evo magazine also naming it as 'Sports Saloon of the Year' for 2011.
