Muscat: The Ministry of Awqaf on Tuesday launched two new applications for users of smartphones and Tablet PCs.

The two applications, “News of the Ministry” and “Ramadan 1433”, enable the users to read events and speeches organised by the ministry, besides communicating directly via e-mail and social media. “Ramadan 1433” programme gives access to fasting-related fatwa, advisory on various issues on fasting, prayer timing and other events during the month of Ramadan.

The subscribers get instant notifications when any information is being added. The user can download both programmes through Apple iPhone and Google Android devices by entering their names into the search engines or through MARA OMAN icon.

The ceremony was presided over by Ahmad Bin Saud Al Siyabi, Secretary-General at Iftta Office at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs. The two applications have been overseen by Mohammad Bin Saeed Al Maamari, the Minister’s Office Adviser for Scientific Affairs.

The technical management was done by Jabir Bin Murshid Al Rawahi, Religious Affairs Researcher. The project, developed by Smart Application Company, was fully conducted by Omani youths.

Earlier, the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs launched prayer application, Zakat (charity) application and the Omani calendar application. The ministry’s technical plan includes similar projects to keep pace with the rapid information boom.
