DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) signed a QR3.7bn contract with Qatari Diar and Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) for the design and construction of a 6.5km section between the Al Mail Roundabout (Slope roundabout) and the Bani Hajer roundabout along Dukhan Road.

The Tadamon and the Mall Roundabouts will be converted into signals after the ongoing works near Lulu Hypermarket on the D-Ring Road is completed. This project is expected to start in May.

The works on Dukhan Highway is expected to start on June 1 and be completed in 42 months. The project will involve design and construction of roads and five interchanges and will also include the design and construction of a storm water micro-tunnel along the Dukhan highway.

The work covers upgrading the existing Dukhan Road to provide a dual three-lane carriageway and frontage roads to serve commuters.

The Al Gharaffa Street, which is around 3km long, will also be upgraded to provide dual two and three-lane carriageway and frontage roads. Work has been divided into three phases. The first phase includes the design and construction of the 1.3km of the Dukhan highway and all of Gharafa Street, as well as the construction of three interchanges.

The second phase includes the design and construction of 3.7km of the Dukhan highway and the construction of two interchanges at Qatar Academy and Bani Hajer Roundabout.

The third phase includes the design and construction of the remaining 1.5km of the Dukhan highway.
