Applications from Canadian teachers for Gulf postings have tripled, according to Eteach International

Dubai - It's a case ofau revoir Ottawa and marhaba Middle East,as a growing number of Canadian teaching professionals are tempted by job opportunities within the GCC countries.

This is according to Eteach International, the Dubai-based branch of the UK's leading online education recruitment service.

Since the recruiter began targeting key cities in Canada this yearthe firm has seena three fold rise in applications to its online job board from Canadian teachers looking for Gulf postings. This means good news for UAE schools, as according to the Centre for International Education Bench marketing, Canadian teachers are often highly educated, with the majority of prospective teachers drawn from the top 30% of their college cohorts.

Here in the United Arab Emirates, English and American curricula schools are already well-established within the country's educational system; however the Canadian syllabus is one of the more recent programmes of study to be offered to pupils in the Emirates.

And with The Canadian International Schoolin Dubai expected to open its doors to students in time forthe September 2015 intake, Canadian-qualified teaching professionals are enjoying a surge in demand for their skill sets - particularly for positions in the UAE.

Jonathan Price, Managing Director for Eteach International and a former Dubai-based head teacher, says: "Currently there are three Canadian curriculum schools in the UAE, with a fourth scheduled to open.

"Within the wider GCC region, the UAE offers the largest number of Canadian schools, however Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman all have dedicated schools offering the Canadian system," he adds.

"With more Canadians opting to make the move overseas, combined with a large percentage of parents in the region having looked to Canada to educate their children in the past, the need for this curriculum is rapidly increasing."

Eteach is not only searching for teachers to fill positions at Gulf-based Canadian curriculum schools; the recruiteris also on the look out for teachers to support British curriculum schools in the GCC, which are facing a shortage of UK-trained staff due to a decline in the number of new graduates.

This means yet more career opportunities for Canadian teachers planning a move to the region, adds Price:

"Canadian teachers can re-certify for the British curriculum, which means that they have a broader choice of teaching options available to them. We know of at least 11 Canadian schools in the region and that number is set to expand before the end of the year."
