Apple overkill: 24 iPad mini models

If Apple's new pricing for its yet to be announced iPad mini is to be believed, it is expected to be $100 more expensive compared to similar models by rival brands.
According to latest rumours on the web, Apple might price its iPad mini from $299 onwards.
Now, compare this to other similar models by Samsung, Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle. All of them start at $199.
While both Kindle and BlackBerry Playbook offer 16GB, 7-inch units for $199, Google and Samsung have priced them similarly, but only for their 8GB models.
Meanwhile, Apple has started sending invites for an October 23 event, when it is expected to announce its much awaited new iPad mini.
According to latest reports, the company might release as many as 24 new models of iPad, including at least a dozen new models of iPad mini next week.
The media invitation only reads, "We've got a little more to show you. Please join us for an invitation-only event at the California Theatre in San Jose on October 23 at 10:00 am."
According to tech blog 9to5 mac, Apple is also expected to unveil its 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display at the event alongside a refreshed Mac mini.
Releasing the list of various SKUs slated for release the blog noted that there could be four variants (P101, P103, P105, and P107), of iPad mini alone in capacity and colour.
