Dubai, December 16th, 2010: The initiatives of the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation to advance Saudi women's leadership were recently recognised at the Kingdom Women in Leadership Awards 2010 - hosted as part of the Kingdom Women in Leadership Forum December 7th to 8th in Jeddah.
Heading the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, Secretary General Muna AbuSulayman was in attendance to personally collect the Recognition Award for Women Empowerment; the foundation was noted for its globally recognised, business-like approach to philanthropy as well as its close work with women's rights organisations and support of awareness programmes for the positive enrichment of Saudi society.
Secretary General Muna AbuSulayman commented: "Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation has always been on the forefront of female empowerment from hiring policy to our grant policy. We are very proud of our accomplishments especially in increasing our grants for projects that deal with every aspect of being a woman from health, to education, training and enabling tools. HRH Alwaleed bin Talal firmly believes in giving women more opportunities to prove themselves as accomplished equals and has applied this principle in every entity and company that he has created."
The forum - organised by business information company, naseba - is part of a greater global initiative with respective editions in the UAE, India and greater Asia. Upon presenting the award to the Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, naseba CEO Sophie Le Ray said:
"The Women in Leadership series met with a more than positive response in the Saudi market with organisations such as the King Faisal Foundation and the Alwaleed Foundation offering their full support. We're honoured to collaborate with such entities, knowing their active contributions to bettering not only the Kingdom's infrastructure and economy, but also their support of sensitive subjects such as women empowerment. The Alwaleed Foundation was probably one of the first to address taboo subjects such as breast cancer through awareness campaigns. Their work is everywhere in Saudi Arabia and the award we're presenting them is just a small way of saying thank you on behalf of the community."
Upon its close, the Kingdom Women in Leadership Forum drew valuable conclusions to be further developed in 2011, with the initiative promising to return as an even stronger and more effective forum for women leaders in the Kingdom.
