MUSCAT -- MV Altonia, the container vessel launched by Oman Shipping Company, made its maiden call at Port Sultan Qaboos as part of the new feeder service called Gulf Express Service (GEX) connecting Salalah, Muscat and Jebel Ali.
On the occasion, officials of Port Services Corporation welcomed the Captain of the ship and exchanged commemorative plaques to mark the maiden call. Representatives from Oman Shipping Company and the vessel's operating agents, Gulf Agency Company, were also present.
The GEX service will rotate weekly from Salalah every Thursday, Port Sultan Qaboos every Saturday and Jebel Ali every Sunday. Currently, MV Altonia is the biggest container vessel operated by Oman Container Line, a subsidiary of Oman Shipping Company. The vessel, built in 2000, is 184.7 metres long and 25 metres wide with a overall capacity of 1,730 TEUs.
