Algerian Capital Markets: Opportunity ahead? - Arabia Monitor publishes second issue of Country Views series
Algerian capital markets are undergoing exciting developments, with reform programs aimed at boosting activity on the Algiers stock exchange. In the second issue of its Country Views series, Arabia Monitor , the independent research firm specialised in economic, financial markets, and geopolitical studies on the Middle East & North African region, shares its analysis. London, July 27th 2012 - Arabia Monitor now offers, in addition to the flagship quarterly MENA Outlook report, monthly updates and a weekly Views series: Thematic reports analysing strategy, regional or country-specific developments throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Highlights of this week's report include:
· Algerian authorities, mindful of foreign interest in the country's economic potentials and also conscious that a more dynamic stock exchange is needed to boost economic growth and unlock new sources of capital for the private sector, are pushing through with a capital markets reform program aimed at boosting activity on the Algiers Stock Exchange.
· In a difficult international environment marked by low FDI inflows (USD 414M in H1 2012), an active stock exchange will be key to putting the country's excess liquidity to work, and counterbalancing public investment, which remains the main driver of growth.
· Significant Initial Public Offering (IPO) activity is expected this year and next: 3 private sector companies have confirmed their commitment, with dozens more considering going public on the Algiers Stock Exchange over the next two years. Large state-owned enterprises are considering opening part of their capital to the public, which we highlight as an attractive investment opportunity.
