Algeria Advances Renewables Plans With Solar And Wind Tender
Algeria is moving forward with ambitious plans to derive 40% of domestic energy from renewable sources by 2030 with the launch of a tender seeking technical assistance with the construction of photovoltaic solar power plants and wind farms. The deadline for offers, to be made in two sealed envelopes one containing technical specifications and the other price is 16 July with bids to be opened in public the same day. Offers are to remain valid for a further 120 days.
The tender, organized by state gas and electricity firm Compagnie de lEngineering de lElectricite et du Gaz (CEEG), does not specify the number, size or location of plants envisaged. However Algerias national renewable energy development plan calls for the installation of an ambitious 22gw of renewable capacity by 2030 (MEES , 30 January). This target envisages the installation of around 60 solar power plants by the latter date, although this number includes thermal solar as well as photovoltaic plants.
