Abu Dhabi, 18 February 2015: The Advisory Board of the 13th annual POWER-GEN Middle East Conference and Exhibition (POWER-GEN), the region's premier conference and exhibition for all aspects of the power generation industry, convened earlier today to review submissions of abstracts  by thinkers and experts from all over the world. The conference is set to take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) between 4-6 October 2015.

Dedicated to conventional power generation, renewable and alternative energy industries, POWER-GEN provides a regional platform for the power industry to discuss challenges and solutions for advancing the future of the energy sector. Attracting senior executives, industry leaders and top engineers from over 80 countries across from around the world, the event is critical to discussions about how GCC countries can meet the estimated 6 to 10 per cent annual surge in demand for power, which is around 8 GW of additional capacity; especially since GCC countries are projected to invest more than $300 billion in some 20 energy projects by 2020.

Reflecting the international scope of the conference, the 41-member advisory board features global experts from United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Switzerland, Jordan, Greece and Germany, who reviewed the 130 submissions received up until applications closed on 30th January.

Speaking of the theme of the event 'Sharing Technology Innovation", Nigel Blackaby, Event Director commented, "POWER-GEN is undoubtedly a key forum to discuss the most crucial issues in the power industry and their solutions to meet the challenge of the growing demand for electricity in the region in a sustainable way. We have received a tremendous response from the community this year, with the balance of conventional and alternative generation technologies ensuring a stellar line up of conference speakers at the event."

Among the most popular subjects for the abstracts have been operation and maintenance, fossil fired technology and renewable energy technology, in the technical track and market trends, strategic planning- project issues, renewable energy and market structure and regulation in the strategic track.

Tauseef H Farooqi, Commercial Director, Taweelah Asia Power Company commented: "The advisory board meeting brought together experts from across the world to finalize the event agenda for POWERGEN, one of the most significant events for the industry. Among the topics discussed, the status of the oil prices remained a constant.  The prevalent low prices present unique opportunities to the power generation industry as oil is a key raw material. The only impact I see is a potential reduction in investment in the industry in the short-term as oil continues to remain a key source for revenue for regional economies."

The lineup of speakers will be confirmed in the coming weeks and will be revealed on the POWER-GEN Middle East website that is available at www.power-gen-middleeast.com.
