ABU DHABI, 20th July, 2016 (WAM) -- The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport at Abu Dhabi City Municipality will start renovation of Sheikha Fatima Park (formerly Khalidiya Ladies Park), at a cost of AED94 million.

The project, which started in June and is slated for completion in July, 2018, is intended to meet the needs and aspirations of the community, nurture an upscale environment and provide modern services and an excellent family rendezvous.

The project reflects the keenness of Abu Dhabi government to provide a decent life for citizens and residents alike, diversify recreational venues, and secure all means of decent living and entertainment options at world-class standards. The project also signals the governments commitment to broaden the amount of green spaces, diversify parks and recreational facilities in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, and establish infrastructure capable of keeping pace with the high growth and sustainability rates seen by Abu Dhabi City at all fronts.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport thanked Abu Dhabi Governments continued support for greening projects, especially parks, recreational facilities and landscaping projects. The DMAT also said that it appreciated the governments support accorded to its infrastructure plans, including parks, recreational facilities and all means of comfort and decent living, in addition to the governments continuous efforts to upgrade these services and provide all means of a decent life for the community.

Sheikha Fatima Park spans an area of 46,000 square meters, with green spaces stretching over 24,035 square meters.

The park rehabilitation project includes key services such as surface parking spaces, facade of the car park, basement parking, bathrooms, and a mosque. The project will be implemented in phases, starting with the basement, followed by landscaping and architecture designs at a time.
