Ummah urged to confront those helping Assad in his aggression
JEDDAH - Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has warned that adventures committed by some states and (their) meddling in the internal affairs of others would lead to more tension and instability (in the region).
The King made the remarks while discussing the Syrian situation at the weekly session of the Cabinet, held under his chairmanship at his palace here on Monday.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) after the session, Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja said that the Cabinet was briefed on a report about repercussions of the events in the region.
He said that the Cabinet was also informed about the international contacts, consultations and discussions held in view of the developments.
The Cabinet specially reviewed the widespread violations of human rights in Syria as well as continuation of massacres and the use of the military machine against the Syrian people.
It reiterated the Kingdom's firm position toward these issues.
It called upon the Islamic Ummah to stand united against Syria's illegitimate regime and confront those who are supplying the regime with arms and ammunitions as well as personnel so that it would not be able to continue aggression against its people.
The King also stressed his firmness on the security and stability of the Kingdom and its people, as well as on ensuring the development covering all sectors of life and raising the standard of Saudi people so as to meet the challenges of time.
Dr. Khoja said that the Cabinet expressed the Kingdom's appreciation of the efforts of the UN Human Rights Council in strengthening international cooperation in the field of human rights.
It also lauded the decisions adopted at the end of the 23rd session of the Council held recently in Geneva.
The Cabinet was briefed on a report on the progress of work in the ongoing expansion projects of the two holy mosques, including the expansion of mataf (circumambulation area around the Holy Ka'ba) and the holy sites within the framework of the laws of the Islamic Shariah and jurisprudence with regard to performing the rituals in view of the increasing number of pilgrims.
It underlined the need for providing maximum comfort and safety for pilgrims. King Abdullah has ordered to redouble efforts and mobilize all capabilities to finish the projects as soon as possible. Dr. Khoja said the Cabinet gave the go-ahead to work out a framework cooperation agreement for using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes with the governments of neighboring countries and it entrusted the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy to hold talks with the authorities concerned in those countries.
