Delivers presentation titled "7 Principles of Successful Project Management in Qatar"

DOHA, 03 March 2015: ASTAD, Qatar's leading project management consultancy, has participated in the 18th Gulf Engineering Forum held in Doha from 1 to 3 March, 2015 and presented a research paper intended to share its expertise on successful project management in Qatar.

The three-day forum, organized by the Qatar Society of Engineers and the Public Works Authority Ashghal, brought together public officials and private sector representatives from across GCC countries to exchange expertise on basic infrastructure development in the region.

Themed "Infrastructure projects in the GCC," the forum featured presentations by major regional contracting, engineering and consultancy firms on a variety of key topics.

During a presentation titled "7 Principles of Successful Project Management in Qatar", ASTAD shared with participants the key factors behind its success in simultaneously managing over 163 highly complex projects in Qatar.

ASTAD's Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Ali Al-Khalifa stated, "The team at ASTAD has overcome many challenges and learned many valuable lessons in the last years while delivering mega projects in Qatar and I am proud to see members of the team readily sharing their knowledge and expertise."

Using some of Qatar's most remarkable projects as case studies, ASTAD highlighted how its understanding of the local culture allowed them deliver iconic museums, conference centres, hospitals, sports venues, universities, as well as master plan projects such as Education City.

"The success of any project often hinges on understanding the client's needs because it allows the project manager to get the basics right-- from planning and budgeting to prioritization and risk management," said Mr. Fahad Abdullatif Al Jahrami, Director of Design & Construction Management at ASTAD, during his presentation.

The ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders and the use of the latest technologies while emphasizing sustainability principles were also key highlights of ASTAD's presentation on effective project management.

"By integrating Qatar's national values into our corporate ethos, ASTAD has contributed to human development and the diversification of the country's economy beyond the oil and gas sector in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030", added Al Jahrami.

In addition to the above values, ASTAD highlighted the importance of developing human capital as well as considering the long term legacy of projects as key project management principles.

Participants at the forum also addressed challenges across different fields including transportation, green standards for infrastructure and provision of raw materials and human resources for engineering projects.

The forum also allowed engineers to communicate and exchange expertise with professionals across several construction-related industries to find innovative solutions when it comes to infrastructure development through cooperation across GCC countries.
