ACC and Masdar Institute launch cooperation program

Abu Dhabi, May 17th, 2011 (WAM) -- Arabian Construction Company ( ACC ) and Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MI) have launched a cooperation program to provide some MI engineering students access to highly-visible construction projects currently under development in the UAE.

The first visit took place recently at the site of the Etihad Towers project in Abu Dhabi. There will be eight to 10 project site visits scheduled per year and students will be able to revisit the same projects the following year to witness the construction developments at a more advanced stage.

Aimed at equipping students with vital on-site experience, ACC demonstrated the dynamics of site management -- from construction to completion.

ACC will engage 10-12 students from Masdar Institute who will be given a short brief, followed by arranged visits to the site where they will meet members of the execution team. Students will be given a presentation on project specifics, including challenges encountered, and then get the opportunity to interview the project team.

Ghassan Merehbi, Chairman of ACC , elaborated on the partnership saying, "We are enthusiastic about educating students on the key aspects of construction projects as we uphold our corporate social responsibility towards shaping the minds of students that will soon be joining our ranks. Our partnership with Masdar Institute will provide students an invaluable opportunity to apply real-world application to theory." Dr. Fred Moavenzadeh, President of Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, said, "The initiative represents our educational philosophy that endorses learning by doing. Our cooperation with ACC reflects MI’s interest in partnering with the industry’s leading firms to provide our students with practical experiences that will optimally position them to become industry leaders."
