Industry experts provided insight into innovation and employee engagement at the 7th Continual Improvement & Innovation Symposium & Competition 2015 organized by Dubai Quality Group.

Dubai, UAE: Continual Improvement (CI) Subgroup of Dubai Quality Group organized a unique annual DQG event to facilitate sharing, recognizing and learning from best practices and actual case studies from various sectors earlier this week in Le Meridien Hotel, Dubai.

The competition showcased the best and brightest ideas implemented by organizations across the UAE based on the core concept of Innovation and Creativity. The competition categories included Kaizen, Innovation, Lean Six Sigma and Best Practice Management with participating companies like Dubai Police, Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), Al Futtaim Finance, Du and ADGAS.The conference also provided a forum where eminent guest speakers and experts from various industries shared latest developments in improvement and innovation philosophies and methodologies that can be implemented in organizations and galvanize people to jump start a culture of improvement.

The winner of the Kaizen Category was EGA for their case study on "Elimination of Blockage of Optimization of Unloading Cycle Time of Phase 2 Alumina Truck Unloading System".  EGA was also chosen as runners up for the case study "Carbon and Port-Anode baking Furnace maintenance" and the third place went to Juma'a Al Majid for Quality Awareness / Go Green & Go Lean.

The winner of the Innovation category was won by Dubai Police for "We are all Police" and the runners up position was a tie between ADGAS and Dubai Police.

The Lean Six Sigma Category winner was EGA for their presentation on "Improving Net Carbon Consumption", followed by Du and Al-Futtaim Finance in the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

The Best Practice Management winner was Dubai Police for their case study titled "Creative Club" and the 2nd and 3rd places were secured by Al-Futtaim Finance and Dubai Police HQ respectively.

The speakers for the event were Shree Phadnis, Team Leader Innovation, Corporate Excellence, ADGAS who presented an enriching speech on "Core Skills for Organizational transformation" and Steven Farr, Senior Manager, Deloitte &Touche Middle East who spoke on "Application of Lean Six Sigma - Practical Experience".

The speakers addressed the audience with an interactive Q/A session.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al Muaini - Vice Chairman of DQG said, "We are delighted to successfullyconclude theContinual Improvement & Innovation Symposium & Competitionfor the 7th year in a row in line with HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision. I thank all the 45 government and non-government bodies like Dubai Police and EGA for their support and enthusiasm in participating. A total of 150 case studies have been submitted in the last two years which will remain valuable assets for an innovative and sustainable business model."

Lieutenant Colonel Turki Abdul Rahman, Director of Quality Assurance Office and one of the participants from Dubai Police said "Our participation stems from the desire and the encouragement of His Excellency the Commander in Chief and we are keen to participate in order to share our visionand the latest innovations with other companies."

Engineer Hamid Sultan, a member of Dubai Police's winning team, expressed his enthusiasm on the initiative saying "Innovation has become a vision of the UAE with the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which is in the interest of security and safety, especially considering Dubai, which attracts a lot of tourists and foreigners, making it a fertile environment for creativity."

Renjit Phillip, Head of Strategy & Change - ‎Al-Futtaim Finance, shared his views saying "Dubai Quality Group has always promoted excellence in quality, creativity and sustainability and this is a great platform to recognize the long term effort that companies put in for enhancing customer satisfaction and employee productivity and we are honoured to be a part of this forum today."

The symposium not only gave an opportunity to exchange ideas and share best practices, but it also upheld the concept of innovation to enhance productivity and growth in Middle East businesses. The case studies presented threw light on how breakthrough concepts in management and operations can foster continual improvement for employees and customers alike and promote sustainable business models.
