Close to 30,000 industrial units operate across 910 industrial townships, said the deputy head of the Organization of Small Industries and Industrial Townships of Iran.

Iraj Movaffaq added that these industrial units have generated 670,000 direct jobs.

He referred to unemployment as one of the main problems of the country, adding that the organization generates jobs by supporting small industries.

"Small industries account for 92 percent of the country's industries," he said.

Movaffaq called the cooperation of water, electricity, gas and telecommunications companies with industrial townships as positive.

"Transferring infrastructures into industrial townships will reduce the final price of utility services for industrial units," he said.

He also said out of 700,000 production guilds, 470,000 are eligible for relocation in industrial townships. "Out of the 910 industrial townships, 610 are active," he said.

Movaffaq called the establishment of specialized petrochemical townships as one of the priorities of the Organization of Small Industries and Industrial Townships of Iran.

"Such townships will prevent the export of raw materials," he added.

"Currently, close to 60 percent of raw materials of petrochemical industries are exported."
