The second phase of Kavian Petrochemical Complex in Bushehr province, which is currently underway at full speed, will be completed in the current Iranian year (started March 21).
Announcing this, Ali Mohammad Bosaqzadeh, supervision manager of National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said the implementation of the project is in its final stages.
Bosaqzadeh said the plan is progressing as scheduled.
"The second phase of the complex will come on stream by the end of the first half of the current year and its units will gradually become operational," he said.
The official noted that the first phase of the complex is currently operational and has a favorable production capacity.
Bosaqzadeh hoped that with the inauguration of the new phases of South Pars in Bushehr province, Kavian complex will need more feedstock and therefore more ethylene will be injected in the West Ethylene Pipeline.
Kavian complex's ethylene will be delivered to a number of petrochemical complexes, including Kermanshah Polymer Company.
"Ilam Petrochemical Complex will also become one of the customers of Kavian complex's ethylene in the near future," he added.
Lorestan and Mahabad petrochemical complexes will also join the list of customers by the yearend.
Kavian Petrochemical Complex is one of the major ethylene producers of the country and has a production capacity of 2 million tons.
The complex's ethylene is transferred to petrochemical complexes of Andimeshk (Khuzestan province), Kermanshah, Kurdestan, Mahabad (Kurdestan province) and Miandoab (West Azerbaijan province).
Kavian complex's surplus production is also delivered to the petrochemical complex of Mahshahr Special Economic Zone.
Currently, Kavian complex's feedstock is supplied by South Pars phases 5, 4, 9 and 10.
In May, Abdolhussein Bayat, NPC's managing director, said Iranian plants will produce 41 percent of the Middle East's petrochemical output in seven years. He noted that Iran currently has a 25-percent share in the Middle East's petrochemical production.
