TABUK - Two power-generating plants with a capacity of 2,500 megawatts are expected to be set up in Tabuk region. The two plants will operate using natural gas at Al-Muwailih at a cost of SR10 billion. Also, a number of high voltage transmission lines (380 KV) will be set up to link Tabuk region with the unified network including Tabuk-Madinah, Tabuk-Jouf and Tabuk-Dhiba- Al-Wajh-Umluj.
The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) in Tabuk region has allocated a package of projects this year worth SR8 billion. The region is undergoing development in electricity services according to ambitious development plans aimed at providing the best services to the citizens.
Engineer Musaed Fahd Al-Qabba', Director of Electricity in Tabuk, said the number of subscribers has increased from over 40,000 in 1987 to about 200,000 this year. The length of power distribution networks for low and high voltage increased from 1500 km in 1987 to 12,845 km this year.
Meanwhile, services to villages, rural complexes and settlements reached 263 villages and settlement areas this year from 20 villages in 1987.
He said the capabilities of generating and electricity production plants have increased from 200 megawatts in 1987 to 1,500 megawatts this year in the region and from 110 megawatts in 1987 to 941 megawatts in 2012 for non-simultaneous service.
Power transmission lines in the unified network for the Kingdom increased from 330 km in 1987 to 1600 km this year.
He pointed out to the setting up of high voltage (500 KV) power transmission lines to link Tabuk region with the international network.
