SKMC Holds Public Lecture about Nutrition on 8 September 2010

), managed by Cleveland Clinic, holds the fifth public lecture related to nutrition on 8 September 2010 in the auditorium of SKMCSKMC
from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm. The public lecture, titled "Joints Care and Nutrition" is organized by the Clinical Dietetics Department of SKMCSKMC

), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.The lecture will comprise of a presentation followed by a question and answer session. It will cover the essential facts of nutrition and its effects on the joints. The lecture will be presented by Eileen Azar, Clinical Dietitian, who will focus on the importance of healthy food to preserve our joints.
"Unfortunately a lot of people do not realize the importance of food ingredients and the importance of nutrition in general. Through such health talks, we would like to increase the society's awareness on nutrition and endorse a healthy community", said Ellen Edwards, Section Head of Clinical Dietetics at SKMCSKMC
, and the UAE Country Representative for the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Eileen Azar stated, "Each food ingredient is essential for our overall health. It is essential to get enough calcium and vitamin D in our diet, which is mainly found in dairy products like milk, laban, cheese, and yoghurt. It is advised to consume 2-3 servings of Vit- D fortified low fat dairy product daily to maintain bone health".
Dr. John Mansfield, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of Anesthesia Department said, "Organizing such public health talks on different topics is part of SKMCSKMC
's role towards the community. Starting from educating children, parents and families, SKMCSKMC
calls on everyone in the community at large to start a healthy diet. Focus on the food quality you select and follow healthy dietary habits to avoid health problems."Eileen further said:"If you are having some joint pain, why don't you try a cup of Ginger drink, which can help relief your pain, and provide you with an extra source of antioxidants.
