Accused ask for acquittal in Dh2.4bn Nakheel case

Two Emirati NakheelNakheel
employees have been accused of exploiting their authority while selling six plots of NakheelNakheel land valued at Dh2.4bn to a German investor.The Dubai Misdemeanour Court has been told that AAA and MFA had pressured the German to buy each of the plots for Dh400 million.However, defence lawyer Habib Al Mulla said the case was filed vindictively by the German investor, who is serving a jail term for issuing a bad cheque to NakheelNakheel
under the deal.Al Mulla told the court that the accused's colleagues had testified that the two employees did not exploit their authority and posts and that their actions were legal and complaint with the company's rules. "They did not pressure the plaintiff or practise any authority against him," he said.
As well, the report from the Financial Control Department proved that the two accused did not have any financial motives to exploit their authority, said the defence lawyer. Al Mulla asked the Jury to turn down the case and acquit the accused.
