Municipality denies reports on imposition of new fees on residents

Rumours spread through Black Berry


Dubai MunicipalityDubai MunicipalityLoading... has denied rumours recently spread through the Black Berry devices that the MunicipalityMunicipalityLoading... has imposed new fees on the citizens and expatriates of the emirate. The rumours were confirming that the MunicipalityMunicipalityLoading... has already imposed these fees on the citizens. This led to an increased number of calls received at DM Call Centre's toll-free number 800900 to inquire about the issue, especially from the citizens.

The MunicipalityMunicipalityLoading... has reiterated that this news is not true. The MunicipalityMunicipalityLoading... has imposed housing fees on all tenants of non-citizens since 1962. However, it has recently launched a project called integrated e-transformation system through which public can pay the housing fee along with the bill of Dubai Electricity and Water AuthorityDubai Electricity and Water AuthorityLoading... (DEWADEWALoading...). Before, it used to be through the Department of Economic Development when renewing licenses as well as through the lease contracts of the Dubai Real Estate Department.

The MunicipalityMunicipalityLoading... also confirmed that the housing fee is the fee for services accounted for 5% of the rental value of the unit leased or owned by non-citizens. These fees are for services provided by Dubai MunicipalityDubai MunicipalityLoading... for residents in the Emirate of Dubai, except the citizens.

Launch of the project comes as part of Dubai MunicipalityDubai MunicipalityLoading...'s keenness on organizing work in the field of financial collection and the introduction of the best and latest technologies in this area in a form which guarantees the quality of work and comprehensive coverage of all tenants in the Emirate of Dubai.

The first phase of the project began in 2005 through the collection of fees by the newly registered contracts with DEWADEWALoading.... The MunicipalityMunicipalityLoading... worked on the development of this system in coordination with DEWADEWALoading... during the second phase in the light of the study notes on the application of the system in the first phase.

In order to achieve customer satisfaction the MunicipalityMunicipalityLoading... was keen to implement the integrated electronic system covering all the tenants in the emirate through a modern, civilized and just method that prevents manipulation and includes the concerned category on the application of this law.
