Pearl Route housing project to be given boost

A new committee is being formed to oversee the renovation of old houses along the Pearl Route in Muharraq and the redesigning of Souq Al Qaisariya.
Ahmed Ebrahim Khalifa Al Awadhi, representative of Al Hala on the Muharraq Municipal Council, told Bahrain Tribune yesterday that a visit by Dr, Isa Ameen, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture, had resulted in progress in this issue. "A committee is being set up... to further coordination between the municipal council and the Ministry of Culture on this project," said Al Awadhi. "We reviewed the rehabilitation of old and dilapidated houses along the pearl route and Dr. Ameen, while agreeing with the issues, promised to take up the issues and coordinate with the committee and all the concerned authorities prior to carrying out the project," he said.
"I told him that the people of the area were complaining of the delay in building their broken-down homes. He agreed to address the issue," said Al Awadhi. The undersecretary also promised increased coordination with the Muharraq Municipal Council on all issues.
In addition to the houses, the undersecretary also agreed to look into the Souq Al Qaisariya project - a traditional souq in Muharraq. The project to redesign and rebuild the souq is being taken up on a priority basis and the designs are expected to be completed in a few weeks, the undersecretary told the councillor.
