- Text size
Dubai, 25 July 2010 - Law firm Clyde & CoClyde & Co
LLP is pleased to announce the arrival of partner Joycia Young into its Middle East Intellectual Property (IP) group. Joycia's principal areas of practice are intellectual property and franchising; her arrival enhances and further entrenches the firm's dominant market position in this area by combining two of the region's leading practices.Named as 'a leading IP lawyer in the region' by legal directory Legal 500, and as a 'foremost legal practitioner' in the area of franchising in both 2009 and 2010 by The International Who's Who of Franchise Lawyers, Joycia arrives from law firm DLA Piper, where she held the role of Head of IP for the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.
She will now be working in conjunction with Clyde & CoClyde & Co
's Head of IP, Rob Deans, in leading
Clyde & CoClyde & Co
's IP group, as well as taking a lead role in further developing the firm's regional franchising offering.
Joycia advises on the full range of transactional and contentious issues related to trade marks, domain names and copyright, as well as in relation to brand protection strategies. Her recent work has included advising the media, retail and fashion industries.
Commenting on her move, Joycia said: "Clyde & CoClyde & Co
was the natural choice for me as I looked to broaden my IP practice. They have the largest IP practice of any international law firm in the region, a blue chip client base and well established infrastructure to manage large IP portfolios. Clients will be the clear beneficiaries from the market-leading practice that will emerge from the consolidation of our efforts and the strengthening of the Clyde & CoClyde & Co
IP offering."
Welcoming Joycia to the firm, Rob Deans said: "We are delighted to welcome such a high caliber and well-regarded partner into Clyde & CoClyde & Co
's Middle East IP practice. The direction of Joycia's practice is very much aligned with Clyde & CoClyde & Co
and our client base, and we see Joycia's arrival as another key step in the continued expansion of our IP offering across the Middle East."With expertise spanning IP strategy, commercial IP and franchising, IP enforcement and disputes, trade mark registration and patents, Clyde & CoClyde & Co
has unmatched top tier rankings for intellectual property across all major independent legal and intellectual property directories. Joycia's arrival into the team is seen as further entrenching the firm's market position.
Specialist industry publisher MIP (Managing Intellectual Property) has shown Clyde & CoClyde & Co
to be the overall top firm for IP for the last four years, and in 2010 as the only firm ever in the UAE to achieve a 'perfect score', with a first tier ranking across each of MIP's four specialist intellectual property categories. Since 2007, MIP has documented Clyde & CoClyde & Co
as being the only law firm in the UAE with recognition across all areas of intellectual property expertise.
Legal directory Chambers Global lists Clyde & CoClyde & Co
as the only firm in the UAE with a top tier ranking for both its IP practice and an individual lawyer, while noting "Clients are effusive in their praise for this broadly talented group" and that "The firm acts for some of the region's most prominent players in managing their IP portfolios on a global scale; it also acts for big-name foreign clients on registration in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The group also has substantial involvement in some of the region's most critical and sophisticated disputes."
Co LLP has a standalone regional IP practice that clients rate for its 'knowledge of the nuances of negotiating an agreement in the Middle East' and 'great value for money'."
