DHL expands presence in UAE with opening of first logistics facility in Hamriyah Free Zone

Dubai, UAE, July 6, 2010: DHL, the world's leading logistics company, has further expanded its presence in the UAE with the announcement of a new logistics facility opening in the Hamriyah Free ZoneHamriyah Free ZoneLoading... (HFZHFZLoading...) in Sharjah. DHL is the first courier company to set up an office in the Free Zone and the first to pass on to UAE customers the cost efficiencies of duty free clearance and reduced transit times as a result of the new facility.

The DHL Express facility will provide bonded, or duty free, facilities to customers wishing to import or export shipments across the GCC. With the UAE one of the two strategic hubs in the Middle East, the new facility further strengthens DHL's commitment to the region and its position as the leading regional logistics company.

"Sharjah is fast becoming a major hub for industrial development in the UAE given its strategic location. With well established and state-of-the-art facilities, the Hamriyah Free ZoneHamriyah Free ZoneLoading... was an obvious choice when selecting a location of this facility," he added.

This latest announcement follows DHL's recently expanded air network with an Aerologic route linking the UAE, via Sharjah, to Asia and Europe. Aerologic, the joint venture cargo airline of DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo, operates a B777F flight between Leipzig and Hong Kong with a connection in Sharjah. The additional connection in DHL's air network followed growing demand from the UAE business community to facilitate growing trade between the UAE and its largest trading partner, China.

With over 23 facilities and service points across the UAE, this investment further provides customers with not only convenience but an enhanced service offering.
