Internet service in the UAE affected due to International Submarine cable breakdown in the Mediterranean Sea

today announced that the international submarine cable provided by Sea-ME-We 4, in the Mediterranean Sea connecting Alexandria and Marseilles, has had a unexpected breakdown affecting the Internet traffic in the UAE. EtisalatEtisalat
is working closely with the administration, partners and concerned operators for urgent repair works and re-routing traffic to ensure earliest possible restoration of the cables and Internet service. EtisalatEtisalat
has prioritized Internet traffic and essential services, important to customers, to ensure that they continue to operate with minimal or no impact.
For the business segment and service users, EtisalatEtisalat
has already undertaken immediate corrective steps to minimize the impact of the cable cut on business customers.
's network has been so designed to avoid disruption of Internet traffic during such an eventuality. EtisalatEtisalat
has invested heavily in building a robust network with multiple redundant links to major global Internet hubs in Asia, Europe, and USA, so that the traffic can be re-routed to ensure that Internet services can remain operational at reasonable speeds in the UAE. On one hand there is a cable cut and customers are facing difficulty. On the other hand Etisalat is not telling its customers regarding the problem and how and when the problem will be solved.
Even if the solution is not in Etisalat's control, it is the duty of the service provider to let the customers know that why the service provider is not able to provide proper service.
There are many sites which cannot be opened in UAE these days as an impact of this problem. Especially YouTube and MegaUpload cannot be opened (experienced by us).
Hope this will be restored soon.
Yes, what u said is correct I presume. Both of them provide the same rates and the same steps.
I have a du connection and I just upgraded to 1MB 3 days ago and I feel it has slowed down more than before. Might be due to that problem as well, I suppose both Etisalat and du use the same internet route right?
