Executive Committee of Sharjah Business Women Council explores businesswomen's participation in external markets and technology domains

Committee examines new privileges for participant members
Sharjah, UAE, March 17, 2010: The Executive Committee of the Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC) today held its regular monthly meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry building in Sharjah. The committee discussed means to activate the participation of businesswomen in external markets, as well as offering additional services and privileges for council members to enable them to develop and promote their businesses.
These moves by the Council are in line with the vision of His Royal Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which aims to serve society and activate the role of Emirati women. They also reflect the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Honourary Chairperson of the Sharjah Business Women Council, which aim to support businesswomen in Sharjah and secure the means for their participation in the business sector.
Within this framework, the committee discussed the results of meetings with local institutions involved in the support of business ventures and external participation, in addition to discussing progress on talks with global technology companies that aim to support the participation of businesswomen in technology domains. This conference aims to help women innovators from the MENA region take their causes/projects to the next level through social media and emerging online tools.
The goal of this conference will be to gather women innovators and advocates from the Middle East to participate in a two-day conference that explores how technology can improve civic engagement and build a robust civil society.
The conference will include speakers and panelists from the United States and the MENA region who will discuss the unique ways technology can empower communities, bolster advocacy efforts, and facilitate civic engagement.
The conference will also incorporate interactive technology breakout sessions that give participants the opportunity to get their hands dirty using some of the new gadgets highlighted during the conference.
The conference will be held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qassimi, wife of the ruler of Sharjah. The First Lady, H.H. Sheikha Jawahar is an avid advocate for promoting women's leadership and empowerment.

(read less)Advancing Social Media For Community Engagement", which was held at the American University in Sharjah at the end of last month (February 2010) in collaboration with MEPI, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry and ICF Int'l, the Executive Committee announced that it will host the conference on annual basis, in order to keep businesswomen abreast with the latest communication technologies and allow them to benefit from these technologies in developing their businesses.
A good part of the Executive Committee's meeting was dedicated to discussing prerequisites for Council membership and new incentives for participant members. Commenting on these issues, Binkaram said: "We provide means and tools in support of businesswomen in Sharjah who are participant members of the council. That's why we are currently preparing a package of new incentives which will allow them to benefit further from the services, incentives and training programs offered by the Council, thus helping them to develop their leadership skills and to manage, develop and promote their business in a more modern and efficient way."
The committee's meeting agenda also included presenting the Council's bylaws for approval, reviewing the quarterly report and making recommendations, in addition to assessing the outcome of a Council delegation's participation in the 12th Global Businesswomen and Leaders Summit in Dubai, the Barnard College Global Symposium - Women in the Arab World and future action plans. The committee also discussed the Council's work program for the coming period, which focuses on the expansion of women's participation in the economic sector, increasing awareness of the Council, and training and development affairs. Additionally, the meeting reviewed and discussed the work progress of the Council's sub-committees.

The Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC) is an organization mandated by His Royal Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and His Wife Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed AL Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Honourary Chairperson of the Sharjah Business Women Council to further incorporate women into the economy.
