Dubai Chamber workshop focuses on protecting consumers against counterfeiting |

Coinciding with the 5th Gulf Day for Consumer Protection, workshop dispels queries on consumer rights
Dubai, UAE: Under its strategic objectives of creating a favourable business environment and supporting the development of business, Dubai Chamber of Commerce & IndustryDubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry
in association with the Brand Owners Protection Group (BPG), organized a workshop on Consumer Protection against Counterfeit on Wednesday. The event coincided with the 5th Gulf Day for Consumer Protection and was attended by lawyers, legal advisers and representatives of a number of Government departments, traders and all those interested in commercial fraud and counterfeit products and their detection.
The workshop that aimed at raising awareness about the concept of counterfeiting, its implications on brand owners and their strategy in facing the menace was attended by Omar Shteiwi, Chairman, BPG, and Regional Intellectual Property Adviser, Nestle Middle East, who gave a presentation on Strategy of Brand Owners in Fighting Counterfeiting and Omar Mohammed Obaidat, Board Member of BPG and partner in Al Tamimi Co, who spoke about Trademark infringement and its implications on businesses.

informed that the crime of counterfeiting leads to the consumer acquiring commodities that are not of high quality which in a way has its implications on the overall economy of the country.
Said Jehad, "The consumer protection issue is one of the most important issues which the Chamber is keen on highlighting under its objective of creating a favourable business environment while also promoting the concept of corporate responsibility towards society and the importance of effective participation of companies in finding suitable solutions to the various counterfeiting problems experienced by the consumers."

organizes workshop and workshops that help in promoting awareness about various legal issues and its specialized legal services are practical and value added to cater to the various legal needs of the business community.
The Brand Owners Protection Group (BPG), is a non-profit organization represented by leading companies, law firms, service providers and trademark owners worldwide. The group plays an important role in encouraging legitimate trade and also supports the nation's fight against counterfeited trade.
