Dubai Men's College business students get better understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility
Dubai, UAE: With the aim to promote the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among business students, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry'sDubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry's
Center for Responsible Business, recently organized a presentation on Corporate Social Responsibility for students of Dubai Men's College studying for a Higher Diploma in Business & Management (Human Resources). The seminar that came as part of the Chamber's efforts in enhancing the awareness of CSR, was a first level introductory session for the interns to get a better understanding of the concept's internal and external aspects for businesses and how companies can look at integrating CSR within their day-to-day business activities. This interactive session with the working students bringing in examples from their own companies and also hearing about initiatives from other companies was a good starting point for the students who will now go ahead to experience CSR within companies through their industry project.
These students are going to be placed with different companies to identify the organization's CSR policy as well as create a plan for implementing the policy in the current financial year of the company/organization (including at least one community based activity).
Vineetha Mathew, Senior Executive, Center for Responsible Business, at Dubai ChamberDubai Chamber
, said that there is a pressing need for companies to receive targeted training on what CSR is and its benefits and how corporate responsibility practices can be made a part of the business strategy in an effective manner while clearly differentiating it from philanthropy.Mathew further stressed that there is a clear need to develop a new set of skills and awareness among the rising generation of business leaders. The task is to deepen and broaden this awareness and understanding of CSR across a wide spectrum of audience, she explained.
The seminar provided a fitting platform for raising awareness amongst future business leaders to follow socially responsible practices with positive long-term outcomes for the UAE. This project will build awareness and capabilities, and help spread the message of best internationally-recognised responsible business activities.
