starts off today the events of the 26th GCC Traffic Week (14 - 19 March) in Dubai, featuring a program comprising more than 22 diverse events to be held at different parts of Dubai Emirate.Engineer Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTARTA
Traffic & Roads Agency, stated that RTARTA
was keen on taking part in the GCC Traffic Week; which is held annually across GCC states, through rolling out a series of distinctive events & activities with the aim of boosting the traffic awareness, and raising the level of traffic culture & safety of all segments of the community, including drivers and road users. During the events, RTARTA
will also stress the importance of providing road safety elements through reminding drivers of the importance of complying with traffic rules as a means of minimizing crashes involving extensive human and material losses.
"GCC Traffic Week's slogan this year "Beware of Other People's Mistakes" draws the attention of the public to the fact that the driver is most influential factor responsible for crashes within the traffic triangle (Driver, Vehicle and Road). Last year mistakes caused by 194 drivers resulted in 225 mortalities, and in the preceding year mistakes of 258 drivers were responsible for the death of 294 persons.
"Over the past period traffic awareness and safety experts of the Agency were heavily engaged in identifying key drivers' mistakes triggering fatalities and serious injuries, and worked out equivalent smart options to enable drivers, or other road users, apply them to avoid other people's mistakes. Events supervisors at the Traffic Week will attend to communicating those concepts to the public through lectures, workshops, or printed material explaining other people's mistakes and how to avoid them.
"Through this week we will be seeking to mobilize the potentials and all possible means and orient them to delivering educative concepts related to the Traffic Week's slogan to the public, particularly among secondary school and college students. For this end we have selected Zayed University (for Girls) as a venue for unleashing the events on the first day of the Week, and will move on the next day to Dubai Women's College at Higher Colleges of Technology, followed by the American University in Dubai on the third day, and Dubai Men's College at Higher Colleges of Technology on the fourth day; where a special motorbike demonstration will be made by experts explaining safety elements and precautions of riding motorbikes.
"Traffic awareness programs at universities account for 45% of RTARTA
events program set for the Week, comprising educative lectures on how to avoid other people's mistakes, practical demonstration of the importance of safety belt, the importance of child seat in the vehicle, and opening registration of members in "Traffic Awareness Ambassadors" program; an educative year-round program run by the RTARTA
targeting university students.
"Traffic Week events also include receiving delegates from GCC states, and reviewing the awareness efforts made in their attendance at the Theatre of RTARTA
new building, interceded by plays and hymn clips tailor-made for the 26th GCC Traffic Week delivered by male and female students from different school in Dubai Emirate. Events program also includes awareness activities at Al Wasl Hospital, Rashid Hospital, Princess Haya School, Social Development Center, and various other schools & nurseries before ending up with a motorbike motorcade."RTARTA
had long ago prepared for this annual event such that it will come up with an excellent participation measuring up to the ambition of brining about a positive impact on road users through a series of events and programs prepared by Traffic Awareness Section at Traffic Dep't including a number of key events targeting all age groups.
"Traffic & Roads Agency is keen on involving the largest possible number of participants from public & private entities, academic institutions, and civil organizations in the events of the Traffic Week through coordination with the concerned bodies or sending invitations for participation and contribution to the events. The Agency is viewing the Traffic Week as an important event for mobilizing all potentials to enlighten road users on the risks of crashes and the possibility of avoiding them, and accordingly minimize fatalities, injuries and all sorts of losses in keeping with RTARTA
vision of providing "Safe and Smooth Transport for All" said engineer Maitha.
She called upon drivers, road users and the public to cooperate with the RTARTA
in making the events of the Traffic Week a success. She stressed the importance of making concerted efforts involving all parties in such events in order to minimize human and material losses on roads triggered by traffic violations and crashes.
