Reduction of Helicopter Accidents to 80% by 2016
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA)UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA)Loading... hosted yesterday, 02 March 2010, the meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council Helicopter Safety Team (GCC HST) in Crown Plaza Hotel, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, which was attended by all helicopter operators in UAE, Qatar and KSA.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Omar Ghaleb, Deputy Director General, GCAAGCAALoading.... The meeting discussed the obstacles and factors affecting the safety of helicopter operations and methods to solve them in order to achieve the key goal of reducing helicopter accidents to 80% by the year 2016 in cooperation with the regional and international organizations working towards safe helicopter operations such as IHST, EHST and WRSI.

Representatives of US Federal Aviation Administration, Saudi Aramco, Gulf Aviation Services of Qatar, Emirates Aviation Services for Helicopters, and gas and oil sector in the UAE were also present at the meeting which discussed mechanisms and standards required to be applied in order to solve the obstacles and risks of helicopter operations.

Hosting the meeting of GCC HST is in line with GCAAGCAALoading...'s efforts to overcome obstacles and factors affecting the safety of helicopter operations in the GCC countries in general." said Omar Ghaleb.

Speakers highlighted the recent developments in the efforts towards meeting international safety standards of helicopter operations in the Gulf. After that, the representative of Gulf Flight Safety Committee presented a report about helicopter accidents. The one day meeting then discussed several matters in relation to safety of helicopter operations.

GCC HST is an unofficial committee created during Dubai Helishow 2008. It consists of volunteers who work towards finding mechanisms for safety of helicopter operations in GCC countries. It aims at achieving international goals and standards for the safety of helicopters by reducing helicopter accidents to 80% in general.
