UAE moving ahead with steady steps, has achieved a great deal in 38 years |
|
General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has said that on the 38th National Day the UAE continues to move with steady and carefully-studied steps to complete the empowering phase launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to complement the founding phase launched by the late Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE today sets off with an ambitious future vision based on fairly established basis of strategic planning and the best international practices towards sustainable development, said General Sheikh Mohammed.
He said the future vision has taken into account the concepts of the present times, and that policies and strategies should flow into the service of the objectives of development.
General Sheikh Mohammed said the creative interaction between the internal and external policies of the UAE has had many positive effects; the UAE would not have succeeded in attracting foreign investments without the political and security stability. Also the stable and secure atmosphere has made the country a destination for investment and a proper environment for business.
He said education topped the national agenda since education is the main tributary for development. Education, said General Sheikh Mohammed, is still far from the level of ambition and it forms a gap that should be quickly bridged. General Sheikh Mohammed said UAE women have made a great deal of achievement, and now women occupy senior posts in all fields and sectors.
He said the UAE has become a model of providing care for children, mothers, the elderly as well as people with special needs.
Policies pursued have given unprecedented results in economic, industrial, tourism, entertainment and cultural fields, said Sheikh Mohammed, adding that national economy growth indicators have gone up to record levels. To continue with those successes needs more non-traditional investment visions, serious government follow-up as well as upgrading and reactivation of laws and their enforcement mechanisms, he said.
Instructions given to provide more support for small and medium enterprises of nationals and the gradual shift to the flexible economy and capital-intensive and high-technology industry form a broad base for production and services, said Sheikh Mohammed.
He said sovereign funds are invested abroad on economic rather than political considerations.
General Sheikh Mohammed said the provision of full healthcare has always been a foundation of the strategy of sustainable development. He said the UAE has taken measures to upgrade judicial institutions.
General Sheikh Mohammed said hosting several media channels in the UAE aims to create a competitive and healthy environment and to raise the ceiling of the freedom of expression and opinion. The UAE has consolidated its tourism industry, he said.
General Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE places the issue of food security and environment protection on its priorities list out of awareness of the seriousness of this issue and its negative effects on stability and security in the region.
He said the big successes made by specialised exhibitions confirm the world's confidence in the ability of the people of the UAE to organise such unique events and consolidates the strategic policy to extend bridges of friendship and co-operation with various countries of the world.
The huge achievement made by the UAE has gone beyond the country's borders to cover many sisterly and friendly countries through development projects, financial aid and soft loans, said General Sheikh Mohammed.
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said the honourable national events and the great achievement since the establishment of the union state in 1971 are bright chapters in the history of the UAE and which is a source of pride for successive generations.
In a statement to Nation Shield magazine, Sheikh Hamdan said 38 years ago the ship of the union set sail and managed, thanks to the wisdom and patience of its captain the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to overcome all obstacles.
A great deal of economic, political, social, educational and health achievement has been made, said Sheikh Hamdan.
He said over the past five years the UAE has seen a quality leap in many fields thanks to the wise leadership of the President and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who mobilised all resources to serve his people and to provide all requirements of decent life to the people of the UAE and to protect the country's destiny, heritage and sovereignty through the building of a defence force supplied with the latest equipment and armament technologies.
Sheikh Hamdan said the people of the UAE live as one family and one body, and they have the right to boast among peoples with all the progress and economic, cultural, construction and social prosperity. Fields of science, technology, sport and health have become a model to be followed and have drawn the attention of world countries, peoples and media, said Sheikh Hamdan.
Sheikh Hamdan greeted President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Their Highnesses the Rulers.
He also congratulated General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
