Jordan: King asks govt to start election preps. immediately

Amman -- His Majesty King Abdullah II today asked the government of Prime Minister Nader Al Dahabi to promptly start preparations for elections a day after he ordered the dissolution of parliament and called for early ballots.
In a letter to Dahabi, the king instructed authorities to amend the election law and update all procedures for the electoral process so that the polls would be a quantum leap in the democratic process through which all Jordanians can exercise their right to run for or elect their representatives in the House of Deputies.
King Abdullah instructed authorities to take all steps necessary to "turn the next elections into a model for transparency, fairness and impartiality and a bright spot in our reformist and modernisational march.
" He stressed the House's role as a "basic pillar that enriches our democratic march" and a key contributor to comprehensive development that reflects on the lives of citizens.
"As we await to be posted on whatever measures you might take to achieve this goal, we implore Almighty for success in our quest to build a prosperous future that fulfills the hopes and aspirations of our people," the letter read.
