Deputy Chairman of Justice and development Party in Turkey Kursad Tuzmen on Friday said his country gives special importance to its relations with Syria because it is a neighboring and friendly country.

"Boosting trade relations and increasing cooperation between the two countries have been achieved by virtue of President Bashar al-Assad and Turkish Premier's support and encouragement," Tuzmen who was ex-state Minister for Foreign Trade said in a statement to SANA.

"Syria is an important country in the region and plays a big role in achieving peace and stability," he added.

Tuzmen underlined that relations between Syria and Turkey are built on a right basis in the interest of the two countries and peoples.

"President Bashar al-Assad's visit to Turkey in 2004 came to achieve development of relations between the two countries, it was a turning point to open new page and era between both countries... later were the visits of Erdogan and President Abdullah Gul to start a new stage in the bilateral relations," Tuzmen added.

He stressed that the two countries' decision to cancel entry visas which was one of the difficulties facing relatives along the border regions came to open the door wide in front of the visits of families and relatives during holidays.

Tuzmen said that trade volume between the two countries during the latest years has never exceeded 100 million USD, but now it is approaching 2 billion USD, underlining that his country is working with Syria to raise this number of 5 billion USD.
