Doha, Qatar 20 October 2009: The countdown has begun to the Doha 2nd International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) 2010 - the Middle East and North Africa's largest exhibition and conference dedicated to the maritime defence industry, the DIMDEX 2010 Steering Committee announced at a Press Conference held at the Holiday Villa Hotel and Residence in the presence of high-ranking Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, headed by Commander of Qatar Emiri Naval Forces and DIMDEX 2010 Chairman Staff Brigadier (Sea) Mohammed Bin Nasser Al Mohannadi, and Steering Committee Deputy Chairman Staff Brigadier (Sea) Khalid Yeha Alkhuzaei, DIMDEX 2010 Board Member Staff Colonel (Sea) Abdulbaqi Saleh Al-Ansari, DIMDEX 2010 Board Member Lt. Colonel (Sea) Ahmed Abdullah Haroon and DIMDEX 2010 Exhibition Director Mohamad Nabhani.
The anchor of the Middle East and North African maritime defence industry, the biennial DIMDEX show is held under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, The Emir of Qatar and His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Heir Apparent of the State of Qatar. For the second time, the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces will be the major stakeholder supporting DIMDEX 2010.
The remarkable growth of DIMDEX 2010 in comparison to the inaugural DIMDEX exhibition in 2008 demonstrates the important position that the MENA region holds in today's global maritime defence sector, advised Staff Brigadier (Sea) Al Mohannadi.
"DIMDEX 2010 brings together under one roof leading companies offering the very latest technologies to meet the maritime challenges of the 21st century. DIMDEX 2010 attracts warship constructors as well as manufacturers and suppliers of onboard systems and equipment including helicopters, communication systems, training and simulation systems, radars, torpedoes, missiles, underwater anti marine operations, UAVs, UUVs, ROVs, propulsion, combat and EW systems," said Staff Brigadier Al Mohannadi.
"Regardless of the commercial importance of the event, the purpose behind DIMDEX 2010 is not only financial profit but the international sentiment and media awareness of the State of Qatar as we aim to position Qatar at the center of the regional and international maritime defence markets."
For three days next March, DIMDEX 2010 is the gateway to the Middle East and North African market where military intelligence experts project 350 naval ship acquisitions will be purchased by 2015 (source: AMI International).
"DIMDEX 2010 will feature about 30 national pavilions and a world-class exhibitor list featuring the biggest global defence manufacturers including Northrop Grumman, MBDA, Thales, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Saab, DCNS, EADS, Thyssen Krupp, MTU, CMN and Damen Schelde," promised Staff Brigadier Alkhuzaei.
Commenting on DIMDEX 2010's level of preparation, logistics and technical planning, Staff Colonel Al-Ansari said: "All the preparation is on schedule and working as planned. Due to the good work and co-operation, we are approaching 80% booking. At this moment, more than 135 companies and 90 VIP delegations have confirmed their participation and we expect 7,000 exhibitors between 29 and 31 March 2010 representing senior industry, defence and government decision makers."
Doha International Port will host more than 20 visiting warships to support national pavilions by arranging on board visits for interested delegates and visitors," added Lt. Colonel Haroon.
For the second time DIMDEX 2010 will incorporate the Middle East Navy Commanders (MENC)
Conference on Tuesday 30 March 2010. The packed MENC agenda focuses on helping delegates meet the tough challenges facing naval operations in the region including piracy, illegal trafficking and maritime terrorism.
"Our close work with maritime defence companies, naval chiefs and Coast Guard Commanders allows us to confirm the commercial, operational and governmental skills that make DIMDEX 2010 a major event on the international maritime defence calendar," said Exhibition Director Mohamad Nabhani.
Committed to raising the profile of Qatar and promoting DIMDEX to an international audience, the Steering Committee are in the middle of a two-year tour of the world's major maritime defence exhibitions including France, Russia, Turkey, Singapore, Korea, and U.K to agree manufacturer, VIP delegation and naval participation at DIMDEX 2010.
"Our participation in these events is helping to ensure Qatar is the regional center for the maritime defence industry and the growing interest in naval defence and security issues," added Mohamad Nabhani.
