Kuwait: Al-Dosari urges govt to 'write off' citizens debts after failure of fund
- Text size
KUWAIT CITY - MP Dr Badi Al-Dosari has appealed to the government to write-off debts of citizens, especially after the failure of the Fund for the Needy to address this issue. Al-Dosari revealed the parliamentary committees met HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at the start of the previous legislative round. At the time, the Amir told them that he ordered increasing the ceiling of the fund, yet the government has not implemented this directive. He asked the government to take tangible steps in this regard or write-off the loans. Asserting the problem lies in the hands of the incumbent and former financial ministers, Al-Dosari contended these officials have been announcing different figures about the citizens' loans, so nobody knows the actual amount until now. He went on to say the MPs are merely asking the government to waive off the loans or interests.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the parliamentary Financial and Economic Affairs Committee MP Mohamed Al-Mutair said the panel will meet next Sunday to discuss the initial framework of the government's development plan. He reiterated there are "no teams, winners or losers. We are all in one ship and we should work in the best interest of Kuwait."
On the other hand, MP Ahmed Al-Saadoun asked Minister of Communications Dr Mohammed Al-Baseeri about the implementation of a previously ratified bill on the privatization of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC)Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC)
