Middle East Network Operators Group Meeting
- Text size
Beirut Lebanon, 30th September 2009: Having staged four successful events in the last three years, the next meeting of the Middle East Network Operators Group (MENOG) will be staged for the first time in Lebanon. Supported by the RIPE NCC, the Regional Internet Registry for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia, MENOG 5 follows on from the success of MENOG 4, which was held in Bahrain and attracted 90 representatives of government and business from 17 different countries.
Hosted by IDM and Ogero, MENOG 5 will gather business, network operators and the technical community to discuss the critical Internet issues affecting the Middle East region. The five-day event is an opportunity to share expertise and knowledge, and to identify opportunities for regional cooperation.
MENOG 5 offers the opportunity for organizations and individuals from across the region to discuss and debate topics such as networking and the deployment of IPv6, Internet security and the deployment of Internet exchanges. IPv6 is a new system of IP addresses crucial to the continued growth of the Internet.
The meeting's agenda includes presentations, tutorials and workshops on IPv6 and ISP security, which will be presented by international experts. Meeting attendance is free of charge, except for the workshop sessions where a nominal registration fee applies, and open to anyone with an interest in the Internet and networking field.
This conference will take place at the Mövenpick Hotel in Beirut, from 25-29 October 2009.

About the RIPE NCC
Founded in 1992, the RIPE NCC is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation that supports the infrastructure of the Internet. The most prominent activity of the RIPE NCC is to act as a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) providing global Internet resources and related services to a current membership base of around 6,400 members in over 75 countries.
These members consist mainly of Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunication organisations and large corporations located in Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia.
As one of the world's five RIRs, the RIPE NCC performs a range of critical functions including:
The reliable and stable allocation of Internet number resources (IPv4, IPv6 and AS Number resources)
The provision of an open, publicly accessible database where this data can be accessed
The RIPE NCC also provides a range of technical and coordination services for the Internet community. These services include the operation of K-root (one of the 13 root name servers), the Deployment of Internet Security Infrastructure (DISI) and DNS Monitoring (DNSMON).
As a result of its established position in the Internet industry, the RIPE NCC has played an important role in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), European Union (EU) workshops and government briefings on key issues in the current Internet landscape.
