Results from Tolly Group and Spirent TestCenter validate the unmatched performance, resiliency and reliability of 3Com3Com
's next-generation H3C S12500 platform 3Com Corporation3Com Corporation
(Nasdaq: COMS) today announced its next-generation H3C® S12500 large core/data center switching platform demonstrated unrivaled network performance while delivering superior efficiency, resiliency and reliability in separate tests. The Tolly Group, an independent testing organization, as well as tests conducted with Spirent's award-winning Spirent TestCenter™ platform, both validated the S12500's ability to deliver the ultra-high reliability, density and performance needed to support today's mission critical data center network operations."H3C's next-generation data center solution exhibited superior performance, availability and scalability during our field test, and significantly impressed us all," said Qiu Wei, network operation and maintenance director of Sohu, one of China's premiere online community destinations, who recently purchased the H3C S12500 platform. "Based on the outstanding results H3C equipment provided, we chose H3C for our data center, and we are confident it will provide exceptional availability of services, readily meet increasing bandwidth requirements, and capably support any emerging new services we offer our community members."
According to The Tolly Group, the H3C S12508 meets the demanding requirements of today's data center networks, while also future proofing these networks to address emerging next generation requirements. Tolly engineers certified more than 120 features including high availability, multicast and reliability features on the S12500 under the 'Tolly Certified' program, which confirms for customers the 3Com3Com
solution has been independently certified to perform in the most rigorous data center environments.
Spirent, recently declared by Frost & Sullivan the leader in enterprise network testing, evaluated the forwarding performance of Layer 2, Layer 3 (IPv4 and IPv6), multicast and MPLS traffic on 128 ports of 10 GE (Gigabit Ethernet), as well as cache testing with bursty traffic. The test results revealed under all these traffic scenarios the H3C S12518 delivered line-rate performance across all 128 10 GE (non-blocking) ports with zero packet loss. The ability for a data center switch to provide this level of scalable real-world performance is critical to ensure bandwidth optimization and quality of service (QoS) guarantees, especially in complex scenarios such as fully virtualized networks.
"3Com3Com
set out to develop an industry-leading large core/data center switch with its H3C S12500 platform that delivers on the reliability, security, scalability and performance required to meet the demands of today's network operations," said Saar Gillai, 3Com3Com
senior vice president, worldwide products and solutions. "These test results validate our products deliver on what we promise and the unbeatable scale and performance of the S12500 make it a clear leader among current data center switch offerings."
Highlights of the H3C S12500 platform testing include:
Next generation performance and efficiency
In both tests, the S12500 demonstrated superior performance for layer 2, layer 3 (for both IPv4 and IPv6) and MPLS. The Spirent test validated the H3C S12518 supported 100% throughput with zero packet loss across 128 10 GE (non-blocking) ports while forwarding L2 unicast, L3 IPv4 unicast, L3 IPv6 unicast, and L3 MPLS traffic.
Advanced video support
Both tests validated the superior multicast support of the S12500. Specifically, The Tolly Group validated support of up to 16,384 IPv4 and 4,095 IPv6 multicast groups and the Spirent test confirmed wirespeed to 128 10GE ports for Layer 3 IPv4 and IPv6 with zero packet loss. This confirms the S12500 provides the kind of high level performance and efficiency needed by customers who are streaming video, IPTV and other advanced multicast services.
Ultra resiliency and reliability
Both tests confirmed the S12500's ultra resiliency and reliability in high-capacity networks. The Tolly Group test validated wirespeed performance with no packet loss while switching between the primary and backup management modules and with redundant switching fabrics - ensuring "hitless failover" of the network to avoid service interruption. In addition, for MPLS, the S12500 demonstrated a failover time of less than 27.1 milliseconds. The Spirent test confirmed that H3C's Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) capability allowed two switches to be managed as one larger logical device creating a resilient virtual switching fabric that simplifies operations and increases overall network resiliency.
