King Saud University Hospitals announce their initiation of an integrated technical system

Press Release

27 August 2009
King Saud Hospitals are currently witnessing an era of vitalization towards technology and science through the initiation of electronic transactions, aiming at elevating the efficiency of their medical services.

As crystallization of the idea, a new project of computerization and electronic archiving was launched at King Khalid and King Abdulaziz University Hospitals, which was patronized by Dr. Musaed Al-Slaman, Dean of College and Hospitals Supervisor. Big attendees of the event were Pro. Dr. Fahad Al-Zamil, Medical College Deputy Dean for University Hospitals Affairs; Dr. Ahmad Al-Barrak, General Supervisor of Medical College and University Hospitals IT Department; and many other administrative and hospital management figures, in addition to employees of Alfanar for IT, executer of the project.

"The project is aiming at archiving and computerizing all medical records paving the way for hospitals to be using electronic transactions in the future, which can be looked at as the fruit of long hard work to build solid infra structure for such projects. University hospitals have previously carried out different projects and medical systems, but the real turning point is now with the electronic medial transactions. The paper file, with what it contains of reports and forms, is now an electronic file that can be referred to upon need. The patient's information, medical history, previous tests, medical reports, x-rays and related data can all be retrieved in a matter of seconds and in a systematic manner that allows the doctor to find the wanted details as the file is connected with the health data system and other medical systems applied at university hospitals." Dr. Barrak said.

Eng. Mohammed Nazeeh Othman, Director of Medical Engineering Services and Project Manager, said: "There is going to be connection between the system ends in the two university hospitals, where data can be retrieved on a daily basis between the two, falling into one system as if they are one hospital. In a later stage, paper work is going to be computerized turning into electronic files. Data retrieval and search can be done in both Arabic and English with the ability to add new data to the first page of the patient's file."

On a different level, Eng. Sabah Al-Mutlaq, Deputy Chairman of Board of Alfanar GroupAlfanar GroupLoading..., expressed his great feelings about his company executing such a highly esteemed project that aims at initiating an advanced electronic system computerizing all medical transactions, and hence creating a technological environment that heightens the health quality and services offered in the Kingdom.
