Stop wasting electricity at workplace: PAEW

MUSCAT -- Businesses and corporations across Oman are being urged to employ smart ways to reduce their use of electricity in the workplace this summer to make a significant contribution to the summer-long "Switch To Save" campaign. Mohammed Abdullah al Mahrouqi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW)Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW)Loading... and Board Chairman of the Electricity Holding CompanyElectricity Holding CompanyLoading..., said the objective is to show business users how they can take simple and easy measures to save electricity without having any impact on their commercial operations and help lower their operating costs.

"Every day all of us waste electricity because we do not know of any smarter ways to use this vital resource. There are a number of simple tips everyone at the workplace can do and still operate efficiently," he explained. Al Mahrouqi is urging companies to start reducing wastage through the following ways:
Keeping only the air- conditioning on in rooms actually occupied. (Too many employees leave units on to cool rooms that are empty or rarely used).

Simply turning the thermostat up by one degree centigrade can save up to 3 per cent of the electricity that is used think about how cool does one actually need the home or office to be.

Use a laptop instead of a desktop it consumes five times less energy.

Make sure that employees turn off computers and electrical devices when they leave the office every day there is no need to keep an empty building cool overnight.

Keep doors closed to stop wastage.

According to EHCEHCLoading... Chief Executive Karl Matacz, these simple to follow tips could potentially allow savings of up to 10 per cent in total over the coming three months of June, July and August. The official Switch to Save campaign was recently launched by the Minister of National Economy, Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki at a ceremony attended by, among others, Mohammed Abdullah al Mahrouqi. The campaign by the PAEWPAEWLoading... and the EHCEHCLoading... is the first major public awareness drive ever launched in the Sultanate to encourage smarter use of scarce resources and stop wastage.
