Regional Director Soraya Salti honored as Skoll Social Entrepreneur
INJAZ al-Arab, a non-profit organization at the forefront of inspiring Arab youth with the spirit of entrepreneurialism and business innovation, was awarded a 3-year grant from the Skoll Foundation, March 26, 2009, for affecting tremendous change in the region's education challenges.
One of seven organizations from around the world to be recognized for this achievement in 2009, INJAZ al-Arab's Regional Director Soraya Salti was acknowledged as the key to the organization's continuing success. She joins a prestigious group of 72 honored 'Skoll Social Entrepreneurs', representing 59 organizations involved in tackling the world's most critical social and economic challenges.
INJAZ al-Arab builds a bridge between the region's private sector and the youth, through the development and delivery of a mentorship program by business leaders that focuses on business acumen, innovation and entrepreneurship, and supplements the existing education curriculums.
The Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship support social entrepreneurs whose work has the potential for substantive influence on today's critical challenges including health, economic and social equity, peace and security, institutional responsibility, and environmental sustainability. These issues shape the foundation's vision of empowering people to create a peaceful, prosperous, sustainable world.
Salti accepted the award by Skoll Foundation Chairperson Jeff Skoll (founder of E-Bay), President and CEO Sally Osberg and 2007 Nobel Peace Laureate Dr. P.K. Pachauri during the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship held at Oxford University, UK.
"We are very proud of INJAZ al-Arab's efforts and success in the region over the last five years and honored to be selected by the Skoll Foundation for this award," says Salti. "The grant will enable us to grow our operations and extend our reach to the youth across Middle East & North Africa to ensure they are better prepared to lead and succeed in today's global economy."
INJAZ al-Arab is currently gearing up for its 3rd Annual Company Competition taking place in Beirut, Lebanon from June 21-23, 2009. Students from 12 Arab countries will gather to showcase their entrepreneurial capacities to a judging panel of top regional business leaders, in efforts to take home the 'Best Enterprise' Award.
