Nashwa Al Ruwaini wins Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award

Abu Dhabi, 7th April 2009: Nashwa Al Ruwaini, last night, received an award in the Women Leaders category for the Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award. The award is dedicated to honour men and women in the Arab World for their exemplary leadership in driving their organizations to fulfill their role in business and society, for their uncompromising style to instigate a quality approach to work and for acting as a role model to all. 

The award is also designed to encourage the growth and development and organizational competitiveness through the instigation of exemplary leadership.  His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai was the first recipient of this award in 2006.

The prize was awarded to Nashwa at a Gala dinner held at the Al Bustan Hotel in Dubai.  The dinner also comprised of a keynote address by Mr. Gregory Watson - President of the International Academy for Quality (IAQ) on the theme of " Leadership in Times of Uncertainty". 

Nashwa Al Ruwaini quoted while receiving the award, "I am honoured to receive this award in the presence of so many distinguished guests, this award means so much to me and I hold it in honour of all the many women that work hard to become exemplary leaders."

The Feigenbaum Leadership Excellence Award was established in honour of Dr. Armand Val Feigenbaum, President and CEO of General Systems Company and "Father of Total Quality Control." The award comprises four leadership categories: Exceptional Leaders, Accomplished Leaders, Women Leaders and Rising Stars and is handed out by the Virtual Executive Club (VEC) at the Hamdan bin Mohammed e-University in Dubai, the first e-University in the UAE.

Over the past 18 years Nashwa has become an accomplished media personality with her talk show, 'Nashwa', and her own production company, Pyramedia, which has grown to include offices in London, Cairo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and New York and has produced top rated TV shows such as 'Millions' Poet' and 'Prince of Poet's' TV competitions on Abu Dhabi TV.

Nashwa is actively involved in various charities including 'The Nashwa Foundation', a charity established by her which has contributed to saving and bettering the lives of hundreds of women and children all over the Arab World. She has also been involved in a number of initiatives related to media with the aim of bridging the gap between the West and the Islamic World, including Muslims on Screen and Television (MOST), which aims to tackle negative Arab stereotypes through the media and establish more authentic representations of Arabs and Muslims. Nashwa has also participated in the U.S.-Islamic World Forum in Doha, Qatar for the second year in a row in order to bridge the gap between the U.S. and the Middle East and encourage an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding between the two regions through art and culture.

Nashwa was has previously been awarded the Gold prize at the Tenth Gulf Radio and Television Production Festival held in Bahrain for her show 'Nashwa' and landed a coveted spot for the second time on Forbes Arabia's list of the 50 Most Powerful Businesswomen in the Arab World as well as receiving a nomination for 'Best Entertainer' at the 2008 Rose D'Or Awards in Switzerland. This year, she participated in the 2009 International Digital Emmy Awards as a juror.
