- Text size
RAS AL KHAIMAH - The services of some of the professional and non-professional employees at Ras Al Khaimah International AirportRas Al Khaimah International Airport
have been terminated in the wake of the global financial turmoil which has affected the aviation industry. One of the employees said that the employment contracts of more than 40 workers were terminated.
A source from RAK AirportRAK Airport
said the notices of termination of contracts were served to the employees last week.
The CEO of RAK International Airport, Michele Seliman, while confirming to Khaleej Times that some of the employees had been laid off, declined to give the number of employees whose contracts were terminated.
An Indian technician, who has been working in the RAK Airport Electronic Department since December 2007, said most of the employees were surprised when they were served with termination letters without prior notice.
"I am now looking for a new job as I have a family to take care of, but I do not think it will be easy to find one very soon. Many companies are now reluctant to take on new employees given the current economic situation," he said.
Another employee, identified as Abbey, said his contract was terminated before he could completed a year on the job.
"I have no choice but to look for a new job as my family back home is heavily relying on me," he said.
Some of the retrenched employees said the employers cited the global economic meltdown as the reason for their termination.
