People's Choice Car of the Year: Audi A5

Dubai - Launched earlier this year Audi's latest models, the A4 and A5, have received the highest acclaim from the general public and media alike. Of at total of 36,000 voters from across the region an astounding 23,400 voted the Audi A5 "The People's Choice Car of the Year" from a selection of 81 contestants at the 2008 Autocar Awards. Just days earlier the Audi A5 received its first 2008 award of "Coupe of the Year" from the judges of regional car magazine Car Middle East.

The Audi A4, one of the most important volume models for Audi, claimed a further two awards in the annual industry awards, making for a total of four awards for the manufacturer with the four rings in 2008. The Audi A4 was named "Compact Executive of the Year" by Car Middle East and "Luxury Car of the Year" of the Autocar Middle East.

Jeff Mannering, Managing Director of Audi Middle East, accepted the awards stating "The 'Peoples Choice Car of the Year' award is the highest honor we could wish for. We strive to produce great cars, but only our customers and fans can make us winners." He continued "Following last year's huge success with six awards in total, many of which for the Audi R8, we are very proud to see that Audi can also ignite this passion in the smaller segments."

Audi plans to nearly double the number of models in its portfolio by 2015, from the 25 currently on offer to 40.

AUDI AG's commitment to the region was confirmed through the foundation of its fully owned subsidiary in 2005: Audi Middle East. Sales in the Middle East rose by 38.2 percent to 6,380 cars in 2007 (2006: 4,616). The current Middle East model range comprises the A3, A3 Sportback, A4 Saloon and Cabriolet, the A5, A6 and S6, TT Coupe and Roadster, the A8, S8, the Q7 and the R8.
