Dubai International Academic City's Week of Welcome Sets Tone for Packed Activity Calendar

Annual Orientation Initiative Hosts First Edition of CEO Hot Seat

Dubai: 25 October, 2008 - Over 10,000 students from 27 universities based at Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), the region's leading destination for international higher education and a member of TECOM InvestmentsTECOM InvestmentsLoading..., participated in the Week of Welcome initiative, an annual orientation event hosted at the start of a new academic year.

Organized by the Student Hub, official representatives of the DIAC student body, the Week of Welcome was held from 12-16 October and included a two-day formal orientation ceremony, fresher's bash, movie night, desert safari, and a week-long carnival on campus.

The orientation programme briefed students on the services provided by the Careers Unit of DIAC, including internship opportunities and full-time jobs. Details of the forthcoming activity schedule was also offered with the CEO Hot Seat, Networking Nights, and the DIAC Career Fair featuring as high points of the cluster's calendar of events.

Dr Ayoub Kazim, Executive Director for Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City, said: "The Week of Welcome was launched in line with Dubai International Academic's efforts to create a vibrant campus environment. The cluster has a distinct profile, with the vast diversity of students that we attract. With over 100 nationalities that we have among the community, it is important to hold activities that serve to establish a bond between our students, faculty and supporting personnel, in addition to providing a rich insight into the local culture. In partnership with the Student Hub, we aim to continue providing a range of services that will address the needs of the student community in our cluster."

As part of the festivities, DIAC launched the CEO Hot Seat, a quarterly session for students that will be led by heads of organizations based in the UAE. In the first edition, guest speaker John Brash, founder and CEO of Brash Brands, kept his young listeners engaged in an interactive presentation that focused on the role of brands and included related case studies drawn from his own experiences.

Lisa Franklin-Browne, Head of Student Hub, said: "This year's edition of the Week of Welcome proved a phenomenal hit, thanks to the entire DIAC student community's involvement. We look forward to launching similar initiatives that are both informative and fun for our students."

The new Facebook account created by the Student Hub was also unveiled during the event. Students were encouraged to use 'Student Hub' as a web link, in order to acquire latest information on job opportunities and upcoming events.
